Flatus Vocis: Empty Words
Summary
In this essay, I write about flatus vocis, words that sound impressive but ultimately say nothing. I’ve always been fascinated by writing that feels more like a performance than an honest attempt to communicate. Sometimes “intellectual” writing isn’t deep at all—it’s just vague, overcomplicated, and allergic to clarity. I argue that clarity isn’t a lack of intelligence; it’s respect for the reader, and discipline from the writer.
